  • About Seiko
  • Rintaro Hattori created this company, which started as a watch repair shop, went on to sell second-hand watches and finally started making their own in 1881.

In 1903 it became the biggest watch producer in Japan and one of the most important worldwide thanks to the Seikosha factory built in 1892.

Nowadays, the company is still a watch workshop, since they make all of the pieces for their watches. This allows for the creation of novelties within the world of watches such as the Perpetual Calendar or the Kinetic mechanism, which is one step beyond the automatic.

They have a wide catalogue of models and several series: luxury ones like the Grand Seiko, Credor, King Seiko and Ananta, and others, like the Premier, Sportura, Velatura, Arctura, Coutura, Rivoli, Vivace and Prospex. Their most popular watches are the automatic ones from the Seiko 5 series; the "5" is a reference to its five qualities: automatic, shockproof, waterproof, and displaying both the date and the day.
